What We Believe
God
We believe in one living and true God. Who is worthy of all possible honor, trust and love. Who exist in three distinct persons, God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Who are equal in essence but distinct in function.
Deuteronomy 6:4; Revelation 4:11; 2 Corinthians 13:14
God the Father
The first person of the Trinity. He created all things including man to bring glory and honor to himself. And that man might enjoy Him forever. However since the fall, God has been working in his creation reconciling the world to himself through his Son Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 43:7; John 5:17; 2 Corinthians 5:19
God the Son
The second person of the Trinity. He is the eternal Word who became flesh by virgin birth. And surrendered his life on the cross, to pay the debt of sin for all mankind. We believe he was buried and resurrected from the dead and ascended into heaven and will return for his Bride (the church).
John 1:1,14; Isaiah 7:14; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
God the Holy Spirit
The Third person of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit is the same in substance and equal in power and glory with the Father and the Son. His work is to carry out the will of God in humanity. The Holy Spirit baptizes believers into the Body of Christ and into union with Christ Himself. He indwells, fills, gifts, leads, teaches, and equips believers to fulfill the mission of the Church, and seals them for the day of redemption.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Romans 6:3-4; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Romans 8:9-14; Ephesians 4:30
Salvation
We believe salvation is a free gift of God to anyone and everyone that responds by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, his burial and resurrection. Although salvation is offered to all, it is only experienced by those who accept/trust Jesus to save them. They are baptized into the Body of Christ, given the divine nature and sealed with the Holy Spirit to begin living a new life in Christ. So it is our goal to equip each believer so they may live in fellowship with Jesus Christ.
Romans 6:23; John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10; Colossians 3:1-17
Scriptures
We believe in the divine origin and content of the scriptures. The scriptures came to us "not by the will of man, but by holy men of God as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." It was written for our instruction and encouragement, to lead people to saving faith in Jesus Christ, to guide people toward godliness. To place men and women in a right standing before God, and enable the believer to seek God's glory in all of life's activities. It is above all a book of redemptive history. Therefore the scriptures will have first place in our church.
2 Peter 2:21; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:15-17
The Church
All who have by faith given their hearts and lives to The Lord Jesus Christ are part of a universal body of believers called the church. Each believer is required to have fellowship with other believers in a local assembly (local church). The function of the local assembly (local church) is to proclaim the gospel, prepare believers for works of service and to mature them in Christ. We at New Testament Baptist recognize The Lord Jesus Christ as the Head of the Church. And so, is the source for our direction.
